I honestly have no clue about my dad. I'd never seen him do or say anything homophobic or racist when I lived with him, though he did get jumped once. I personally think it was because of a drug deal gone wrong (since my dad did do drugs), but it could've also been because he said the wrong thing at the wrong time.
I won't ever know for certain, though.
My mom isn't homophobic at all. She loves Elton John, Boy George, etc., and she posts on Facebook about that type of thing. I do think she's trying to get me to come out to her, but no. I sincerely doubt that she'd kick me out or anything, but it's better safe than sorry. (Also, I know my uncle is homophobic and hides behind religion. I don't want my mom to accidentally tell him.) As for racist, some of the things she says is iffy (like when she couldn't tell the difference between Beyonce and Rihanna), but I don't think her heart is in a bad place.
It's such a scary experience.
She may know a few gay people and interact with some gays and butch lesbians, but she doesn't want her children to be around "weird people" or with "adults who live alone."
