It looks like after a few thousand years Greece is finally going to put a ring on it
In 2013 The European Court of Human Rights ruled for a gay couple who sued the country after it had purposely left out gay pairings in their new civil partnership law some years before. The Court set a precedent that now orders all EU members to include gay couples if the country is going to legislate an alternative to marriage. Any new partnership law that is not marriage must now be gender-neutral.
The old Greek government dragged their feet and a new lawsuit to tell Greece to hurry up was filed. Now that the mega-holder of parliamentary seats, Syriza, is in power they have published the bill today, have set 10 days for a public consultation with the hopes of voting on the law next month
