Music is something that is supposed to be an artistic medium that everyone can enjoy. Every one has his or her own music preferences, and that is the beauty of music. I think it is sad that people are stereotyped based on the music they listen to when music is supposed to be an escape and individual preferences should be celebrated.
For example, a lot of people automatically assume that if you are a guy and you really enjoy pop music (specifically artists like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, etc.) you have to be gay, or that "only gay men and girls listen to Lady Gaga/Britney Spears/Katy Perry."
Or, vice versa, if you are a girl and like heavy metal you have to be a lesbian, or a tomboy, etc.
If you like country music you are a homophobic white Christian.
THE LIST GOES ON.
What exactly makes a song by Britney Spears/Lady Gaga/Katy Perry "gayer" than any other song? Why is it acceptable to be a white, straight male and openly enjoy "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift but not okay to openly enjoy "Applause" by Lady Gaga?
Why can't a cheerleader be into heavy metal without being judged?
Etc.
I just think it is sad that some people are forced to feel embarrassed by the music that they enjoy because of stereotypes surrounding certain artists' music. Every one should be able to openly enjoy the music that makes them happy without having to worry about being judged for it.
