YouTube gets more and more popular. A few years ago, 100M views was considered a great achievement,
but now it's too easy to reach that, while flop singles get to 100m, (Unconditionally, What Now, Work B*ch, etc) smash singles get to huge amount of views with over 500m views. Blank Space will get to 1 billion in less than a year, soon getting to 500m won't be an accomplishment, and all the smash singles will get to 1 billion in months.
And 9-digit (100,000,000) views kinda look good in the eyes instead of 8-digit (10,000,000) so making let's say 500,000,000 the new views needed to be certified is non-sense because the satisfaction can also be seen on 100,000,000. I don't know if I make sense
For older videos (like before VEVO, and definitely before YouTube) yes, it's definitely still an achievement. For newer videos, not so much because even flop songs reach that milestones after a few months. But 100 million = a certified video, so I still get excited when my fave gets one.
No, it's not an achievement anymore. Nearly every single moderate sized hit, or bigger gets 100M on VEVO. It's almost guaranteed if you're a musician who has a big following at this point.
And as you pointed out some songs that don't even become actual radio or sales hits still get 100M. It's no longer an accomplishment, or something that people will look at twice.
G.U.Y. is nearing 100M. It's actually more surprising if you have a hit and it doesn't get 100M in 2015.
It's still an achievement. Songs need to be at least moderate hits to reach that mark, and sometimes starpower is just not enough to reach it, so it's still an accomplishment in my opinion
It depends on the artist. If someone underground reaches 100M, it is impressive. But if an A-list popstar reaches 100M, it is considered normal. Years ago, it was such an event when a video reached 100M. Nowadays it is taken for granted because we're so used to see videos with 500M. I guess that in a decade 1B will be the new normal.
It's a huge achievement tbh. Only Top 40 artists and a few international acts are doing it. Everyone else has videos sitting from 1m to 70m just stalling.
Tons of Top 40 staples aren't even hitting 300m with their videos. So clearly 100m and 200m are still huge tasks.
To act like it's not an achievement is stupid. It just shows you look at things from a pop girl, stan, "slay me hunty!" perspective.
