After what happened to me today, I can re-confirm.
In NYC, I think the European and worldly influence is largely responsible for the homophobic/racism issues Americans still face. Importing people from other countries into the US doesn't actually help these matters resolve themselves, it makes them worse if the people coming in from outside the US bring their racist and homophobic views with them when they come.

I don't know what happened to you, but I find this viewpoint strange and seems like random scapegoating motivated by xenophobia.
Contradictory to the "melting pot" nonsense NYers advertise, most immigrants are socially isolated in their "ghettos" so they don't interact with others unless it's at school at work and this is confirmed by urban studies. That's why when most people talk about race relations in the US, it's only black and white. Other groups are not visible or significant.
The only immigrants that are less likely to be socially isolated are more educated groups because they can get professional jobs and move into nice neighborhoods, but again, they're essentially invisible and ignored so they don't contribute anything to the social relations.
The same applies to homophobia. The ones who are most likely to deal with any issues are gay people within that specific community and have to deal with their parents.
