That's a very cynical way of looking at it. The man says he's changed, the people closest to him who know him better than anyone in this world - his parents, his siblings (some of whom were his victims), his wife - say he's changed, and I don't see why that shouldn't be enough for people to accept.

I may not have molested anyone when I was 14-15 years old, but I would hope that people do not judge me today based on various mistakes I made at that age.

So basically everyone in his inner circle. Of course they're not gonna stray and be honest about everything that went on. Their shtick is "good" Christian family. First of all, just because you forgive him doesn't take away from what he did. He still did it. If I murdered someone and the family finds forgiveness in time, does that make me still not a murderer? What type of straws are you grasping.

He was 15 touching girls as young as 4 years old, he wasn't just fondling a girl his own age, a 15 year old boy experiments yes, but at 15 you know better than to do something like that! Most pedophiles got their start young, by preying on those even though viewed as peers younger than them. He exhibited all cautionary signs of becoming a child molester. It may be similar if you look at the situations with no context and complete disregard for ages, circumstances and sexual maturity/awareness and intent but anyone with an IQ above room temperature levels should be able to understand why those circumstances were different and people weren't calling for Lena's head on a spike.
