Transgender woman pushed onto subway tracks in New York City
Quote:
A transgender woman was pushed onto the subway tracks at a Greenwich Village station by a man "acting erratically" who demanded to know what she was looking at, police said Wednesday.
Authorities said they are investigating the case as a hate crime.
The 28-year-old victim was on the southbound platform waiting for the 6 train at Lafayette and Bleecker streets Monday morning when she was approached by the suspect, according to police.
He allegedly asked her "What are you looking at?," then ran to a garbage can, where he fished out an empty plastic bottle and threw it at her, according to police.
The man pushed the woman onto the tracks, then ran away.
The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was treated for cuts and bruises and released.
Awful - and I'm glad she's alive, because the title made it seem like she got hit by a train - but how exactly would this be a hate crime? Maybe there are more details that haven't been released, but attacking someone who happens to be trans for looking at you funny isn't a hate crime. It's a horrible thing to do, but nothing in this story suggests that he did it because she was trans.

The police are investigating it as a hate crime. This is just a news report from a local news station, not the police report.

If she was a female you think the man would have pushed her still
No **** Sherlock. What I'm saying is if a woman was just looking at him as the article suggests the victim was, I highly doubt his reaction would have been similar.
