But... explain. I think it's a pretty fair point that has not yet been properly countered. If changing one aspect of how you were born is seen as self-loathing, how come the other isn't?

Noah Galloway isn't a professional athlete and isn't involved in professional sports. Yes, he is incredibly heroic and has accomplished so much with being an amputee (he amazed me on DWTS), but the Arthur Ashe Award is given to people who either are professional athletes or have partaken in the culture (Robin Roberts was a sports commentator for 15 years when she won). Caitlyn Jenner may have transitioned, but that doesn't erase the fact that she is one of the greatest athletes of all time.

I find reprehensible that people would hide behind Noah Galloway to express the transphobia that is clearly on its way out, at least on a cultural acceptability level. I'd respect you more if you just said "**** Caitlyn Jenner for being trans". You'd be an asshole. but at least you'd be honest.

Nope because when you sign up for war you know the risks. She deserved the award over Noah. Sorry. There has been far too much glorification of violence in our society as a whole. Im glad espn awarded a real athlete.

The timing is a bit ridiculous The Kardashian-Jenner clan turns everything into a publicity stunt. This one happens to have potential for positive change in the world, but they're still treating it like a publicity stunt.

She was one of the greatest athletes ever. Of course she deserved an award over the non athlete.

Either way, I still think Caitlyn deserves it Noah's story seems just as amazing and inspiring also, but Cait was an Olympic Gold medalist after all. There's no denying the amount of courage she's shown already this year as well.

Transgenderism is mainstream. Transethnicity is not. One of the transethnic Tumblr weirdos could just as easily come here and say you are devaluing their true transethnic experience. At the end of the day, you can't truly change your race. You can make cosmetic changes to yourself to mask your ethnicity, but your cultural roots and genetics remain the same. It's arguably the same for transgender individuals. At the end of the day, none of the changes are really anything more than cosmetic. (Aside from the mental concordance, which would apply to a transethnic person as well.) Yes, you can have breast implants/removals, and have your genitalia reformed, and everything else, but it does not change the chromosomes or reproductive capability. So, speaking purely from a biological perspective, truly changing your sex is as impossible as changing your race.

Shooting the argument down as ridiculous just because transgenderism is PC and transethnicity is not doesn't make your argument valid by default.
