Beats are trash. Try some real headphones (Sennheiser, Denon, ATH, etc). They'll sound eons better and usually cheaper. Beats are average headphone drivers with the bass cranked up and they sound awful. The bass isn't smooth at all.
If you think Beats were worth it then you've either 1) never used real audiophile headphones 2) are brainwashed by marketing or 3) both.
Really wish the GP would educate themselves on what good headphones are so this brand could die.
Also Bose are like 1% better than Beats. Also overrated trash.
