I am supporting Hillary Clinton because she is an experienced government figure with the liberal views and personal drive that our next President needs; she isn't the best candidate that there is, but she's the one with the momentum and prominence to prevent another Republican like Jeb Bush from taking office. If I have to give up my dreams of the perfect president to get in return a confident, experienced, intelligent, and progressively-minded woman who will win in return, then my vote is already signed, sealed, and delivered before she even has to go through a primary.
The lack of significant backing or momentum for any third party or any other significant Democrat make other liberal candidates not viable; I understand that some liberal voters don't like it, but with her social power and influence already, you really do have to support Hillary if you want a liberal President to be elected. Any significant diversion of support risks causing liberals to split their vote or have a low turnout in 2016, while the selection of a poor Democratic candidate in her stead is virtually forfeiting the election.
There are better liberal candidates; in fact, there are better candidates than Hillary who are from third parties or who will run independently. However, those who are socially liberal (one of the most important things to me as an individual voter) simply cannot win like she can, and in any case have either already lost the Democratic primary to her before it has begun or have expressed no interest in running at all.
That's basically how I feel. I'd rather Hillary than Bush III or virtually any other Republican.
I will, however, give my complements to Rand Paul for his stance against the NSA surveillance perpetuated by the god-awful Patriot Act. I respect him for that - I feel that an even stronger stance should be taken, but he is right to try to end widespread indiscriminate data collection while leaving security agencies the tools they need when terrorism is suspected. i'll be keeping my eye on him throughout the race.
