civil rights issues aren't a competition between who is the most oppressed, we should just recognise that homophobia, biphobia and transphobia are huge issues in the black community, as they are in society as a whole, and racism is a huge issue in the LGBT community as it in society as a whole
this issues aren't indicative of black or LGBT identity and we shouldn't be confused about that, but its important for people in both communities that trans rights and race equality are essentially the same thing, and fighting for one is indirectly fighting for the other and allowing prejudice to occur within and across our communities is detrimental to the struggle for all of our rights
This Gazi person is clearly insecure and uses his race as a crutch. I don't know why ATRL bothers to have these arguments because 99% of the time they are so Americanized it obscures the discussion as a whole.
The LGBT is not racist and white people saying "no blacks/asians", though a bit tasteless, isn't inherently racist either (there are studies as to why people prefer to date within their race, this is not "my opinion"). Like it has been said earlier in the thread, racism and homophobia in either of these communities stems from the general population. The only reason either of these traits are paired with either marginalized group is because it's trendy to play oppression Olympics and to point out why you and the group you belong to is more of a victim than another.
He's not wrong. Most homophobic people are white straight boys
this is such a lie. The straight black guys in urban cities like Detroit and Chicago are the most intensely, loud homophobic group I've encountered. Especially at trans people. I live in a college town and the white straight guys are harmless or at worst just stick their nose up at you.
the black community has a huge anti-gay problem but you'd never know coming from them!
am not seeing the "racism" in the gay community. is it really just this grindr app bio details that's got people thinking gays are racist? that just sounds silly to complain about.
This **** is so childish. You guys can't generalize an entire group of people. Its just stupid. There are a large amount of white gays that discriminate within the LGBT community. There are also many blacks against gays. It isn't a competition. To say that an entire group of white guys don't care about other gays is childish. There is going to be hate everywhere you come from if you're gay like even the people that say no asians or no trans or no fems. They are just ignorant. There are going to be good and bad people in every minority. Some people like the Gazi find a problem with everything I won't deny that it is a problem but what do you expect when a minority becomes an even bigger minority. (being not only gay but also a minority). I just believe things are getting better at least for the LGBT community people like gazi are just so negative.
Don't get it twisted, blacks are no more homophobic than anyone else. As a culture, hypermasculinity is revered as survival instinct only consequent to being White America's doormat for centuries upon centuries. And thus we have become anti-sissy, we can't have weaklings. So if you fit into that bracket, put the platform heels down & grow some balls and we wont have a problem. That is all.
woo the transphobia. Stop using the fact that black communities have been oppressed as an excuse to oppress. it's weak.
A significant amount of Latinos are "white" or at least have a significant amount European genes.
Yes I know, and the white white gays in my experience want them too, but I've also noticed that they also are much more open to 'ethnic' Latinos (you know what I mean) than to, say, Arabs or black people or particularly Asians.
Why the **** is this even a question or argument? There's homophobic black people. There's racist LGBT people. Not all black people are homophobic. Not all LGBT are racist. Rather than sit around, twiddle are thumbs, and argue about which group is more oppressed (which, seriously, you're not really going to win. The prize of being the most oppressed group is.... you're treated the worst. Um, yay for you for winning?) and simply creating tension, why not work to promote things like respect and equality?
Negatively stereotyping an entire group (race, sexuality, etc.) just pisses them off, turns them off from your cause, and makes you/your group look bad. Just stop doing it. Seriously. One LGBT/black/white/straight/male/female/etc. person's views does NOT account for the entire group and anyone who thinks that it does is ignorant, stupid, and not even worth the time to argue with because they're too caught up in their own damn stupidity, ignorance, and personal prejudices to actually listen anyways
woo the transphobia. Stop using the fact that black communities have been oppressed as an excuse to oppress. it's weak.
It has nothing to do with trans people and everything to do with protecting masculinity. You're a man right? Well if you were tying towels on your head, strutting about in your mothers works shoes to Britney and Jessica Simpson discography as a prepubescent; I am well within my rights to find that disgraceful. And that does not make me a bigot. Hush.
Straight homophobes/racists, republicans and conservative folks are the ones in power denying us all rights and setting up organizations/institutes to discriminate against us all. Yet we keep pointing the finger, thinking we're the most racist or homophobic towards each other
