The thread overall is trying to equate sales to 1999 by trying to adjust for the overall decline year-on-year but that method doesn't necessarily work. In general, the concept of "5M in 2012 = 20M in 1999" (or whatever the change is) is valid, but it can't be a one-size fits all because piracy doesn't affect all demographics, especially older buyers of records.
The albums sold what they sold, whats the use in making up numbers what they "could have" sold
Some of the people in this thread...doing entirely too much. Clearly not scientific but just a thread made by a music fan, not Billboard or anything that will be referenced as actual historical stats. Your old school faves' wigs are safe.
