I'm from Chicago. So I'm biased. I have many friends from NYC so this conversation occurs all too often. I have never visited NYC so my perceptions of the city come from what they've told me. All of my NYC friends do not have license which says something about the culture in the city. I personally love driving and Chicago most definitely caters to that. The lake is wonderful. Riding my bike or walking on the lake shore is just beautiful on a warm summer day. I wonder the city all the time finding new gems. I explore different neighborhoods and find so many treasures. Every new yorker that's been to Chicago that I know of, say it's cleaner. So there's that. I overall love this city, also all my family lives here so that's a benefit. The only two things NYC has over Chicago is the international (foreign born) population and there are way more events.
That said I really want to visit New York soon, and I might this fall for the Polyglot Conference. My only experience in NYC is my layover flight from Spain at JFK
