If the man was going to kill himself, he would have done it before the cops even arrived. He likely wanted love, attention, support, and help; not a bullet to end his life.

Exactly. Alcohol sends you into a tailspin and when you suffer from mental health problems, alcohol distorts/exaggerates your perceptions and becomes especially problematic.

He was using suicidal threats. Nobody knows exactly if he was or not, but in assumption that he was - he got what he wished to happen (assuming that he wanted to commit suicide). I don't see how you're viewing what I said so negatively when I'm going off on the assumption that he was perhaps suicidal before drinking.
