If a guy says to you "You have character" is it undermining and condescending? A backhanded compliment?

Or does it genuinely mean that they are attracted to you and they're complimenting you.

Well, I don't think saying "You have character" equates to attraction, first and foremost.

But, I'd say it depends on how its said. There is a difference between "You've got character" and "You're a character" as the former is something nice, while the second comes off as judgmental.

It means you have personality, you're a distinctive individual, etc. It would depend on context, but it's generally positive.

It's a compliment whether it's intentional or not.

Its actually a great compliment, no one should take it negatively. It means that you are memorable.
