MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III claimed on Monday that the country will reach First World status if the reforms of his administration will be continued.
In his speech in Marikina Elementary School, Aquino trumpeted the country's economic achievements under his watch and the decline in unemployment and hunger incidence among families.
Aquino also boasted of his administrations' anti-corruption efforts and programs for education, health and poverty alleviation that contributed to the country's progress.
Aquino made these statements ahead of his expected announcement of the Liberal Party's standard-bearer in the 2016 presidential elections.
Aquino had said that his successor should sustain the programs that he started.
He had also revealed that this feat can be done by Sen. Grace Poe, who topped the 2013 senatorial elections under the administration ticket.
Poe, who met recently with Aquino, is reportedly being eyed as the standard-bearer of the Liberal Party along with Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II.
