JLo, Shakira and Ricky M on new Tommy Mottola's Documentary.
Tommy Mottola Working On HBO Documentary 'The Latin Explosion' Voiced By John Leguizamo
Former Sony Music big boss Tommy Mottola is working on an HBO documentary titled “The Latin Explosion,” with will include talents such as Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Thalía, Eva Longoria, Sofía Vergara, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, George Lopez and John Leguizamo as the narrator for both, the English version and a voice-over version in Spanish for HBO Latino. This will make it the largest pool of Latino talent to ever assemble for a film, and it’s probably because Mottola started some of these stars’ careers after signing them while at Sony.
Thalía’s husband left Sony 12 years ago, when he was at the very top of his game, and now, he will be the executive producer for the documentary, which will be a tell-all about the “history of Latin music and how it has influenced culture — beyond Latino culture, into American culture.” Mottola took great part in the crossing over for some of the participating stars, after some of them started out in their home countries, before making it big in the US.
The idea could’ve come to Mottola after starring in the PBS documentary “Latin Music USA,” narrated by Jimmy Smits, and the film is slated to debut at Sundance 2016, before hitting the small screens later that year. We cant wait!

I'm surprised they didn't include Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull.

Or she saw what he did with Mariah's career and a lightbulb went off.

I'm surprised Enrique isn't included, but Pitbull wasn't part of the Latin Explosion.

I know, but most of the people featured like Sofia Vergara and Eva Longoria weren't either. The Latin Explosion in 1999 initiated by Ricky Martin and was followed by hits from Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. Shakira's crossover came two years later in late 2001 so it wasn't part of the Latin Explosion and neither was Thalia's unsuccessful crossover in early 2003. None of the actors were then either except for maybe John Leguizamo. Regardless, they're all still important. Gloria Estefan wasn't part of the explosion, but she laid the groundwork in the 90s. The others that came after benefited from the explosion that began with Ricky, including Pitbull and even all the successful actors. Latinos became part of the mainstream in the US after 1999.

Enrique wasn't under Mottola. He was signed with Interscope/UMG when he crossed over.

Jose Feliciano, Ritchie Valens, Santana, Miami Sound Machine, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Brenda K Starr, Jon Secada, Selena, etc., all say hello.
The girls have been here before 1999. The Latin Explosion just sparked more global interest in latin artists.
Also, this documentary will not just be about the music.

That make sense. I'm guessing the actors are connected to him too.

Of course, but this documentary is about the Latin Explosion in 1999, which was the entry into the mainstream. It even helped actors go mainstream too.
