Dead when New Jersey only has the Jersey Shore (which is like destroyed at this point), Newark (which is next to nothing but power plants) and radioactive garbage dumps. NJ is nowhere close to being iconic.
I am talking about something notable about the state in popular culture. There's a huge thing about Jersey citizens and being from Jersey and the types/accents etc to the level of iconography in its own right. Notability doesn't have to be just about sights and landmarks.
Wisconsin is always used as the "haha random!!" punchline in film, TV, etc. I mean the Green Bay Packers were used as an acapella group in Pitch Perfect 2! Our impact
Hawaii is iconic for a lot of reasons plus it's a damn island.
Alaska is iconic for being gigantic, disconnected, formerly part of Russia, etc.
Florida is iconic for the messes it has plus its history
Arizona is iconic for having a damn wonder of the world (Grand Canyon)
New York
California
Texas
Florida
Four definites. The rest have one city that's iconic or has some historical event like Hurricane Katrina or some civil rights movement. They're all toss-ups.
