Bloc Party - Helicopter
Great chorus, shame about everything else. I'm just not that into it.
Katy Perry - Hot N Cold
Perry's take on sexual politics is at best, offensive and at worst, dangerous ("PMS like a bitch - I should know? SERIOUSLY?), but this is one damn catchy track. But, not because of her - her lyrics are the most troubling, and her vocal - or, should I say "vocal" - is as transitional (as in, a woman becoming a man) as ever.
Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart
I do love the buildup, but there's a slight disconnect - the song is not strong enough of a climax to warrant all that came before it. Listening to it with a year removed, though, I remembered how much I enjoyed it.
Missy Elliot - Gossip Folks
Ugh, when Missy was great. Clever, unbeatable wordplay, one of the best Timbo beats of the decade, and that sample! It falls a little flat this days, but it's almost better than everything else this week.

HI MISSY!
Dido - White Flag
Does it say a lot about me that I was singing along to every word of this song? I really like certain things about this track; you can HEAR Dido's smirk when she tells her ex-lover "I'm sure that that makes sense," and it's lovely. In a weak week, who can ask for more?
Fall Out Boy - Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
Seriously this is not even the best single from this damn album. Pete Wentz's lyrics are at their most precious here, and that Stump guy doesn't get any chance to really own the track.

Lil Wayne - A Milli
Must I be young Carter's lone defender? Like it or not, no one raps like him, and this tangential recording is just fascinating - it's like a trip inside Weezy's mind, free of charge. We hear his myriad issues with women (do I hear closet doors clanging?), and get one of the best kissoffs of the decade. "MOTHER****ER, I'M ILL!" And, he is ill. CRAZY!
No Doubt - Underneath It All
Sweet, unfussy, uncomplicated. A cool breeze on a summer's day. The best song this week.
One Republic - Apologize
A truly pedestrian song, "uplifted" by Timbaland's subtle as a karate chop production. But, lmao I remember when David Archuleta performed this last year on AI - he singlehandedly made this song seem like something important? Oh, Archie!
Keane - Everybody's Changing
Why do I love this song so much? It's been five years since I first heard it. Maybe it has to do with the times - I was just graduating from high school, and was unethused about what was ahead. Keane, the xerox of a xerox, came along and released a single that really connected to what I was feeling. Miche had the right word for them - pleasant. But that's not always such a bad thing.
