A horse died during competition at the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair on Saturday.
The Chronicle of the Horse said on its website that Cambridge, ridden by Emma Kurtz, died after taking a bad fall while competing in the small junior hunter class. Kurtz was not injured, the website said.
The horse show released a statement confirming the death and extending its condolences to those involved but did not divulge the horse's or rider's names.
In other events, Victoria Colvin of Loxahatchee, Fla., won her fifth consecutive best child rider award, an unprecedented streak at Devon.
"I've been riding these horses for a long time, and I love them all," Colvin said. "It's just been an amazing time to be able to ride all of these great horses."
Taylor St. Jacques of Gen Allen, Va., was named best child pony rider.
Daisy Farish of Versailles, Ky., won the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Junior Jumper Classic. The prize was $20,000.
