Marylin Manson who was blamed for Columbine school shooting.
Actually Not. These teens were found to be listening to be Marilyn Manson and other artist, but they were probably depressed and raging. Besides, a violent video game influenced them more than MM music. MM even said, if they were alive he would have talked some sense into them.
Britney is controversial, I mean surely not more than MJ, Prince, Madonna and rockstars like Marylin Manson, etc. but to say she wasn't controversial is ridiculous. Give credit where it's due guys.
Also today kissing a girl is not controversial (Katy her impact) but when she kissed Madge and Xtina, it was kind of a big deal, just like for some reason in 2013 Miley twerking caused a big outrage.
I could say Bjork and M.I.A. too, but they're so underperform u.u

Give us one single example of something Brit done in the past to call her controversial. And please, in an artistic level, not a kiss or a snake in the neck.
What could done Brit for establishing an entire debate around a single theme? For example: abortion, sex, female rights, gay rights, etc.
I can't name any example.
And no, kissing girl was controversial like 10 years before the VMA kiss between Madonna and Brit.
The same Madonna used to kiss a lot of girls in the past, for example Naomi Campbell in the Sex Book, or when she said she's bisexual.

Everyone was shocked at the Madonna and Xtina kiss. Her image, music and breakdown...she was a symbol for American culture, the ultimate pop star in the early 2000s.
I did not say she was more controversial than Madonna because no one is in pop music but she was definitely controversial.
If you name at least ONE single pop artist to have been threatened by the Pope himself about being excommunicated , over a music video, then we can have a deal
Then , after being threatend of excommunication by The Pope, one year later, the Vatican banned The Blond Ambition Tour telling all the Catholics from Italy to boycott the show in Rome, which pissed Madonna and led her to make this iconic speech :
So, with her songs (especially Like a Prayer) , album , videos AND tour, Madonna pissed the supreme leader of Catholicism to the point of not only being threatened with excommunication but also to have a simple show, being 'banned' by himself .
This, alone, is more controversial (artistically speaking ) , than basically everything any other "star' has ever done .
Justin Bieber never did anything controversial musically and has been mentioned many times in this thread but no one is trying to discredit him like they are with Britney--just a simple observation
1) Micheal : Kids Drama, Changing skin, being huge in the spotlight from a kid to death, the overdose, the death case being one of the biggest trials of all time
2) Britney : Shaving head, the kiss, first "kid star" turned pop mega star,k-fed, JT
3) Madonna : changed pop with controvesy
4) Gaga : Meat Dress, Bad Romance, Telephone, Dressed as man, DWUW case, Disco stick, The whole
"lady gaga is a man" mess.
I'm not saying Britney hasn't had her controversial moments. I'm just saying that 'Like a Prayer' music video alone, the Sex book alone, 'Justify My Love' video alone, 'Like a Prayer' VMA performance alone, The Blond Ambition Tour/and its film alone, the 'Erotica' music video alone are all more controversial than Brit's combined
