Eh. I don't think comments like that (or at least the first two in his examples, the third is more dubious) are usually rooted in homophobia so much as they are in self-involvement.
Usually when someone (a straight woman, typically) says things like that, they mean it in the sense that it's a shame that the guy is not attainable to them. I don't think there's really anything implied beyond that.
