Users of gay dating app Hornet have chosen Russia's Polina Gagarina as their favorite to win the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday (23 May) night. France came in second, followed by Sweden and Italy. Hornet seemed surprised by the results of its survey. 'One might predict an LGBT bias against certain countries, but gay Russians are voting for their home country without apology,' the company said.
Eurovision is exceptionally popular among gay men has even been called the 'gay Christmas,' but Hornet is the first to poll this audience. 'Last year’s winner was Conchita Wurst, a talented pop artist and openly gay drag queen,' the company said. 'Hers was a victory that cannot be understated for its significance given the large international viewership of Eurovision especially in Russia, whose government passed a national anti-gay law in 2013.'
'Hornet — with its 6 million users and the huge following of gay Eurovision fans — believes it will have a more-informed, fun (if not more scientifically accurate) prediction of this year’s winner.'

During the press conference, a Turkish journalist referenced Russia’s anti-LGBT laws and asked why Polina didn’t choose to sing about this issue. But that didn’t phase Miss Gagarina. “Well,” she said. “I just can say that my song is really about love and it’s really about that we are speaking — everybody is speaking one language, language of love. It’s no difference about who you are. We are people and we can make bridges in a moment. I saw it today. It was amazing. Everybody was screaming Polina. I cried.”
No it wouldn't! Russia isn't as bad as the media wants you to believe, at least not anymore. They hosted an amazing show in 2009, and that year I was in St. Petersburg and I loved it!
