Various members will probably tell their side when they publish memoirs in a few years. At the moment 1D are probably restricted from talking too much publicly about any disputes with each other or with management. Once their contract ends or they break up we will likely hear some more about this and other things.

He's going to get at least a year of downtime, which is a lot compared to his hectic schedule with 1D. On top of that, going solo and out of the hands of 1D contracts, he'll likely have more free time to do this or that. And not be forced to do multiple, back to back tours, constant traveling, etc.

He has to quit music to want to be out of the spotlight for a while? Obviously, with him saying he'll embark on a solo career, he did not mean indefinitely. What 22 year old with a passion for music would? Don't be so dense and quick to believe the mania.

if he was truly cheating why would he care that much to leave his massive band? he could of easily continued getting millions while in the band and still cheated on her and not give AF.

there were clearly other reasons. i think he is enormously sensitive to the negativity the press was giving him for his "cheating" allegations, his substance abuse and his religion/race.

He left the band for all the same reasons, Diana Ross, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake left theirs. More freedom.

Granted Bey and MJ did have freedom but they wanted to do things their way without having to think about the other members. When they went solo they could showcase more of themselves.

There is no doubt in my mind that Zayn was using drugs. You can tell he was depressed and he was probably self-medicating. He was ruining his relationship and he didn't want to be part of the band anymore. That's why he left. He left to save his own life. In recent pics, he looks much happier and much healthier. Good on him. Good on Liam for telling some watered down tea.

Exactly this. They literally never get to take a break. The last time I heard of the boys actually having an official, label-sanctioned BREAK was before Midnight Memories era, and it was like a couple weeks at most. I remember vividly because Zayn was really excited to finally go home and see his family. They're working nonstop. It's not ludicrous to think that some of them might have gotten tired of it. I'm actually surprised they made it this far as a 5-piece tbh.
