Clearly there are circumstances here that go beyond "too gay". That may have been a factor but clearly it's not the whole story.

This isn't my reply, but I think Gaga has said the "gay" thing was a major factor in her hip hop collabs not coming to fruition in an interview.

The production is good. Kendrick is good. Gaga doesn't fit here, what shes doing with her voice, just doesn't work with the track imo. Her lyrics are kind of dumb too. I mean all this nonsense about Kendricks team not being down with Gagas gay fanbase always seemed like a scapegoat excuse to me. What clearly went down was that her contribution sucked and so they were like nah nevermind. I mean proof being he ended up on a Taylor Swift single, but it works because its a good track.

As much as I'd like to say it aint so, I actually do see that being a possibility.

This is the last demo they did before they scrapped the song. The artRAVE version was just a solo that Fernando Garibay was contracted to remix. Just imagine if they were able to finish it.

If that was the case they wouldn't have announced a release date (way after they had recorded it and obviously heard what she brought to the table) before canceling it after the public's reaction. Beyond the gay thing, him being underground and working with the biggest artist at the time made it seem like he was selling out after getting signed. Now that he is established, he can venture out and do more mainstream collabs.
