According to an arrest report released late last month, the trio of teens were playing a game of 'Guat hunting,' in which they stalked, robbed and beat up people of Guatemalan descent.
‘The suspects in this case specifically targeted members of our Hispanic community, they sought them out and this young man was ultimately killed as this crime unfolded,’ Jupiter Police Chief Frank Kitzerow said at a news conference announcing the arrests.
Lopez-Ramos, his brother and a friend were listening to music and drinking outside a home in the 300 block of Fourth Street in Jupiter at around 1.40am April 18 when they were approached by the Harris brothers, Austin Taggart and three to seven other men who wanted to chat.
In reality, police said, the group of young men had been looking for Guatemalan immigrants to rob, reported Sun-Sentinel.
At first, the interaction seemed friendly enough, but before long the tone of the conversation changed and Ramos-Lopez took off running.
That is when police say one of the assailants grabbed a rock and bashed the 18-year-old man in the front and back of his head, killing him on the spot.
