Jay Z and Beyoncé privately donated tens of thousands to bail out protesters in Baltimore and Ferguson, says the hip hop mogul's ghost writer.

Activist Dream Hampton, who worked with Jay Z - aka Shawn Carter - on his 2010 autobiography Decoded, also said the Carters wrote a 'huge check' to the Black Lives Matter movement.

The organizer and filmmaker made the reveal in a series of messages on Twitter on Sunday that were subsequently deleted.

This is huge and amazing, but I wonder why they want to keep them silent. Are they scared that someone will come after them?

Making it public would just make people say "only doing it to look good" or "publicity stunt"

That's not it at all. Likely Bey and Jay want to keep it quiet because their true intention is to simply help out, not to get publicity out of it.
