But 5 million to 1.7 million IS an underperformance at the very least. There is no denying this.

5m is a great over-achievement in the first place, like literally almost nobody does those numbers.
That's like calling Adele's next album a BIG underperformance if it "only" does like 5-6m albums this time around. Some of these big moments are once in a lifetime kind of things.
