Tech: Is the phone innovation dead?

Am i the only one that feels that ever since 2007 when the first iphone debuted there hasnt been anything really innovative phone wise, feels like it's just been small improvements for the last 8 years, better camera, better processor, bigger screen, slimmer, etc.

Does someone sees a major evolution in the short term?

I am a huge phone geek and feel the same. Ever since iPhone form factor debuted, almost nothing has changed
iPhone 6 is super thin, there is no place to improve
I think the next big thing is flexible smartphones

Pretty much. Small upgrades are probably all we'll be seeing for a while.

I was just thinking today that I can't believe they haven't made drop-resistant glass smartphones. I'd think technology can do it nowadays.
My bet is that iPhone 7 (not 6S) will have some kind of unique unbreakable screen
Also iPhone 7 might will probably a dual lense camera

It still breaks my brain what else there is to invent for smartphones... The brick form factor has reached its limits

Those who study art know that there art was pushed to the limits of perfections, after which everything went abstract. This is what will happen. There will be some kind of abstract platforms (3D, holograms) or even something only you can see and noone else

It used to be my dreamphone and now it is just $130 on amazon

so cheap!
It's gonna be my nostalgia item

I'm gonna keep using iPhone 6 Plus though

Nokia N95 s pretty much a top limit of smartphones with a keyboard, while iPhone is the ultimate minimalist phone of the modern times

Maybe "fixing" your screen or "replacing" your phone is a huge industry and theyre not willing to let those coins go if theres no broken phones

This is why I've kept my phone for 6 years. I keep waiting for something big, but it looks like that won't happen.

All we need is wireless charging to be more readily available and longer-lasting batteries and we're good.

Battery life is probably gonna be more important but I feel the next frontier is going to be watch phones especially if the technology becomes better like hologram screen or something.

Reinvention

The main problems to overcome now really are battery and resilience. An iPhone 6 is gorgeous but we have to wrap it all up in ugly cases and protectors to keep it safe. They need to build them strong. I mean of course it works well for them to have a popular fragile product - but if Samsung put out one of their increasingly nice phones that was built to last, but not a big ugly chunk, then I'd be abandoning my frail iPhones pronto.
