I would love for Gaga do to more Sydney Monsterhall-esque one-off shows to promote LG5. Although I'm not sure how practical it would be, it'd be cool if she hit places like Tokyo, Sydney, Paris, London, and New York and filmed the shows so they could sir on local TV stations as music specials.
I think coming back strong with good music and performances could do absolute wonders for her.
I know this is a fan favorite but this song just doesn't do it for me. It drags on for me. Plus I just find the topic dull and pretentious. Love You Like A Song, which ARTPOP sounds like, is so much better at maximizing a good beat with agreeable lyrics. To each his own, of course.
Why do you stan for Gaga, then? She's been using ARTPOP and performance art since her debut, and it's what distinguishes her from her contemporaries.
Yeah, ARTPOP is basically Gaga as an album, truly baring herself as an art piece and a human being in the music. It's a very whimsical but at times visceral look at her life, mental state and feeling about art, the music industry, love, sex and the world in general.
Honestly if you actually hate ARTPOP because it's 'pretentious' then why are you even stanning Gaga? I think people forget that she was actually 100x more pretentious in interviews in 2008-9, but blind themselves to that because she was so successful. It's hypocritical.
I've never thought of any of Gaga's interviews as pretentious. Gaga only makes concept pop albums, and the intense exploration of a single concept naturally requires extended discussion to explain fully. Using analogies and relating to past figures like Warhol are means to that end. Interviews are the best time to explain your vision and meaning you had in making the album.
Many on ATRL like to think that an album that requires more than a few sentences of explanation is pretentious for some reason.
What Gaga got right with The Fame and wrong with ARTPOP is that she forgot Warhol's stance that art should be made to be enjoyed on the simplest level (which translates here to radio jams, catchy and relatable lyrics, etc.). Many pop music fans, including a lot of the GP, don't listen to pop music for the deeper meaning. I think the confusion of lyrics like the "Applause" verses is what created the perception of Gaga and ARTPOP as pretentious in the media.

!!!
People forget every night on The Monster Ball where she would indirectly drag the industry, dumb blonde pop stars, label puppets, lip syncing artists, etc... Or that The Fame interview with a purple wig where she got pissed off with the interviewer, BTW interviews such as NME where she comes off as a bitch, Vogue where she called herself one of the best songwriters and vocalists of all time, her promoting FAME and saying "that's why I'm the aritst and you're the public" and rolling her eyes at questions, etc... her pretentiousness isn't some ARTPOP revelation. It's always been there. It's what makes Lady Gaga ****ing Lady Gaga. People are only notice it now because they're dissecting everything Gaga does to nit pick it to the last and have a reason to bash her / ARTPOP era in general. They're completely forgetting she has always done that because they're stuck in this retrospective mind-frame where everything was rosy and flawless because Gaga was on top of the world.
Because the use of Jo Calderone was gimmicky and clearly for the headlines.
I maintain my dislike for anything Jo Calderone to this day. It was done for the sake of being done.
I did like the opening monologue though. At least she tried to give the Jo character a sense of meaning. She shouldve changed back to Gaga for the rest of the show though.

That's what it comes down to. It didn't matter that she was pretentious before, because she was successful. It didn't matter if she had an ugly outfit, sloppy wig, crappy song or messy performance when she was smashing.

Can it be? Are you all finally getting it in regards to ARTPOP?
