half rican half dominican here, i consider myself more black than latino hahaha
something interesting i've noticed in puerto rico is how when i entitle and take identity of a black person ("yo, que soy NEGRO"), people try to correct me as if it was something negative that i just said ("tu no eres negro; tu eres trigueñito")
they probably don't mean it, but it sounds almost racially charged that comment... why do they have to add the diminituve form at the end to make it sound more appealing? i've also heard the phrase "el es un negrito bonito" and that kinda rubs me the wrong way as well...
