That was the point. She never said she was the first. She PAVED the way.
Janet and Mary J did it first, yes, but with R&B tracks. Mariah put a "Gangsta Rapper" into a pure POP song and it blew up and become one of the biggest and most recognizable hits of her career. She influenced a generation.
