We don't know how long they were 'dating for' but they had been a dating well before they confirmed the whole thing. His tour that 5H opened for was about 3 months and they were definitely dating at this point but prior to this they had been spotted together quite a few times, so I'd say four/five months max.

If I'm not mistaken, she was sixteen. At that age, anything more than a few weeks is epic. Plus him being her first kiss. I think she handled it all very well. He's really a douche for that one.
