that's part of the problem. people regard "racism" and "racists" as powerful words not powerful systems. suddenly, racists are offended that you're calling them racist.

Seems a bit discriminatory. Idk if I agree with the whole I cant be racist because I'm black thing or I cant be sexist because I'm a woman. I never learned it to be a thing of power but rather believing you are superior to someone else. I'm not saying its on the same level because obviously women and POC dont have power, white people hold power and its typically all males. So you can argue institutional racism/sexism just doesn't exist. But talking on an individual level, cant POC be racists? If I'm targeting white/male people or denying them access to things wouldn't you call that racism/sexism? The same way if white people are doing it to me its considered racist, I dont see how its not true for POC. Can POC be racist to each other or are only white people racist? Is white racism only limited to white dominated countries, therefore white people can experience racism in Africa or Asia? I just feel like the definition changes to fit a certain narrative when its way broader than that

I never said that but if the oppressed want to get together and talk about how diversity should be promoted in the curriculum they teach/learn from, that's their business and just because white people know the issues and can speak correctly about the issues, doesn't mean our enlightenment is key in a discussion among minorities. We need to back off unless we're invited into the conversation.

In fact, if we care so much about diversity we should be setting up events white people can attend.

So in this situation their opinions don't matter? Wouldn't it make more sense if they was for POC? Where do their experience go in this school?

Wouldn't they too want to add more things in the school that are more general in terms of diversity.

And even with that the video also posted in the article by one of the students involved said it was about having more people of color in school occupations and the curriculum.

Yeah but I mean when it's the norm then it'll come as a shock that the norm is racist. When you think of racists you think of the kkk and all that but you don't realise it's actually much closer to home.

It's not a chat. It was literally about the curriculum and I recently discovered about the school occupations which happen to be white male and they want to change that.

What I don't get about this is could she not be racist against other minority races though? Also, spewing out her outlook in the most pretentious way possible is not the way to get people to agree with you, even though she is right.

She, a WOC, wanted to hold an event in which other WOC share their experiences and thoughts and opinions on the current state of their curriculum and how it affects them as a WOC. Those who are not WOC have no stake in that conversation, what is so hard about that to understand.

Again, it's a discussion. The result of their discussion is not, will not, and cannot be change that affects everyone. At the very most, the result of their discussion is ideas on how to change the curriculum that they can then go forward and propose to the student government at large.
