My point was that the quality of a song has nothing to do with album sales; it's all about the profile of the artist and the success of their previous era. The only thing Britney could possibly due to find success now is push her work as much as Katy, Taylor, Beyonce, etc. do.

The song does have to be good though. Even if it's not the best.
There's a reason why "Womanizer," "3," and "Till the World Ends" worked while "Work Belch" and "Pretty Girls" (so far) didn't.
"Shake It Off" was a great pop song. It's all about taste as to whether or not it's her best single, but Taylor has been everywhere through her other hits songs, but "Shake It Off" just stuck more.
