Why isn't Avril a main pop girl?
She's never listed amongst the top-tier pop girls, but more B-List like Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, and Ariana Grande. Her first era was pretty big, even if she steadily declined since. Plus, lots of main pop girls are underperforming or outright flopping recently (Britney, Gaga, Christina, Katy, Beyonce did with 4, Rihanna). What is it that these women have that Avril is missing to be a main pop girl?

The answer's clear as day: She was never a major artist: She never owned a year, never won a Grammy, never had a multiple week #1 Hot 100 single, doesn't have a global hit on the United World Chart, etc, etc, etc.

She peaked in 2008 when most of the new pop girls came to the music scene and she was sort of forgotten about after 'girlfriend'.

her and p!nk were always the 'anti-britney/xtina' (in terms of image) of the music industry so it feels weird even calling them pop tbh let alone pop girls

she only makes one type of music.
a major pop girl is one whose discography is musically diverse, who does pop ballads, synthpop, urban pop, dance pop, etc.

Not when her sound has completely changed since the start of her career 
She's pretty much explored most of those sounds above except urban, including one you didn’t mention which is rock/alternative, mess

She doesn't fit in with the main pop girl culture, her early years especially packaged and sold her as the "anti-Britney".

I'm not even her fan and I know she has explored multiple genres including all the ones you mentioned with the exception of urban pop.

No it's not a drag at Xtina. The avi was just a humour way to say it. But what I mean is, Avril never had sex appeal. She had that gothy look thing going on which set her aside from other main pop girls.

Alright, now I get you. And I didn't think it was. But yeah, Avril definitely packed that, but Taylor swift doesn't play it up either and she's still huge. And Katy downplays it every era and her fanbase assures us she just keeps doing better

Christina Aguilera's debut outsold Let Go. Also, Avril's career had the steadiest decline I've ever seen for a pop girl
