Is assuming someone is gay based on behavior or looks or how they talk offensive? I've seen some people say yes and no but I wonder how you guys feel about it
I hate when straight girls use it and talk about how they KNOOOOOW when a guy is gay as if they're some gay expert. It gives me white person trying to be down teas.

Not necessarily, although it's a bit of a tricky tightrope to walk. A lot of what gaydar requires for most people is observing how closely a guy or girl fits certain stereotypes, and while a lot of stereotypes are harmless (e.g. vocal affectations, gender expression, mannerisms, etc.), other stereotypes are genuinely offensive. Once you start applying the latter to other people or reducing all gay people to stereotypes is where it gets to be harmful.
Obviously no one's gaydar is going to be 100% accurate, but making guesses as to whether someone is a friend of Dorothy just by observing them and their behavior is in itself pretty harmless.
If you're basing it off of stereotypes, yeah. If you're basing it off of that person's behavior (i.e. When I went to Hooters last night, and most of the boys from my soccer team were getting all riled up while I was unaffected and pretty indifferent), not really.
