The Cancellation Bear is likely where you saw that. They take syndication as the biggest driving factor in renewals and their predictions. The show was at ~66 episodes, one full season away from prime syndication levels. So that fact alone should be enough to get a 4th season (see: Elementary, possibly Nashville). What they didn't take into effect is that the show is not owned by FOX. NBC Universal is behind the show. Getting the show to syndication levels is only beneficial for NBC. Fox has dealt with 3 low rated seasons, and only so much money was going to get them to waste a 4th year with those levels. I'm sure NBC offered cuts for FOX, but they have big issues to deal with since Empire is pretty much their only hit at the moment. Had TMP been FOX owned, it would have been back on their network for a 4th season. Alas, here we are. (And the fact that NBC doesn't even want it on their own network speaks loud to me lol Scrubs went from NBC to ABC and Medium went from NBC to CBS when their respective parent company wanted to keep the shows alive longer)

If Hulu doesn't work out, I could always see TMP moving to Comedy Central.
