It seems kind of contradictory for us to be trying to break down gender norms and stereotypes but then at the same time subscribing to not be a certain gender based off the fact that we don't identify with gender norms and stereotypes.
Not being judgy or anything, just something I've been wondering.

You don't come off judgmental and it's a pretty complicated thing to understand. And you know what, I don't think we'll ever get to a point where we completely understand what goes on when it comes to gender, sexuality, and all things identity.
What I can say, though, is that speaking from a societal standpoint, boys and girls are supposed to feel the way they're told to feel: boys are manly and like sports, girls are girly and like to cook. Miley is basically saying that she doesn't believe she identifies with either of those things and so she falls in the middle.
Deciding not to subscribe to gender norms is the definition of breaking gender norms down so I don't think it's hypocritical.
