The Best of the Best Week 1: Bust Mr. Brightside's Windows
.. Before He Cheats!
Welcome, one and all, to the first week of this year's game. This year, we're changing it up a bit - last year, we played with every artists fourth choice in the first round; this year, we're reversing it. That's right - every song below (and in the rest of this round) has been chosen by you as the best these artists have to offer. With that said, here are the first ten up...
Michelle Branch, performing Breathe
McFly, performing Hypnotized (bear with me, okay?)
Garbage, performing Why Do You Love Me
Alicia Keys, performing If I Ain't Got You
Santigold, performing L.E.S. Artistes
TATU, performing All The Things She Said
The Killers, performing Mr. Brightside
Jazmine Sullivan, performing Bust Ya Windows
Avril Lavigne, performing Nobody's Home
Carrie Underwood, performing Before He Cheats
First of all - props to Athens for the graphics! Secondly, this is a mega tough week - should be fun!
Now, here's how you play:
Listen to all ten songs, and comment on them in this thread. Then send me your rankings in a PM titled RANKINGS - WEEK 1., with your favorite song in the number one position and your least favorite in the ten position. You have until SATURDAY, JUNE 6th at 11:00 P.M. to do so.
Oh, and here are the ten artists playing next week:
Bloc Party
(ineligible: I Still Remember)
Katy Perry
Death Cab for Cutie
(ineligible: Your Heart is an Empty Room)
Missy Elliot
(ineligible: Teary Eyed)
Dido
(ineligible: Mary's in India)
Fall Out Boy
(ineligible: Dance, Dance)
Lil Wayne
No Doubt*
(ineligible: Hella Good)
One Republic
Keane
* Every song from Tragic Kingdom and New, off of Return to Saturn, are ineligible because they were released in the 90s. Every other song from RoS is eligible, however.
Send me top fours in PMs titled Week 2 Top Fours by FRIDAY, JUNE 5th at 11:00 P.M.

Guys, two things:
- You have to comment on the songs in this thread before I accept your rankings - I mean, come on, play the game correctly?
- Don't send me your rankings now - listen to these songs at least a couple of times before, to really enjoy them?

Breathe by Michelle Branch: Probably her weakest single, but it doesn't mean it's bad.
Hypnotised by McFly: One of their best non-single tracks, I love it.
Why Do You Love Me by Garbage: Overrated band, overrated song.
If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys: Her best song by far and probably my favorite R&B song ever.
L.E.S. Artistes by Santigold: This is her only song I really liked. I listened to it so many times last year.
All the Things She Said by t.A.T.u.: They have better songs. Too bad it's their only hit single in the US.
Mr. Brightside by The Killers: EXTREMELY overrated and annoying. Hot Fuss is their best album, but this one...
Bust Ya Windows by Jazmine Sullivan: Never heard of it before. Not exactly my type of music but not bad either.
Nobody's Home by Avril Lavigne: Avril at her best. Such a masterpiece.
Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood: No thanks, I'll pass.

Breathe - Michelle Branch: One of my favorite songs from her. The lyrics on the chorus is amazing.
Hypnotized - McFly: Some songs of this band are good, but some are mediocre, but this one is really good.
Why Do You Love Me - Garbage: I listened to this song on YouTube, and I didn't like it. And the voice of the vocalist is pretty meh to me. I don't like his voice.
If I Ain't Got You - Alicia Keys: I love this song when it's just new, but now I'm sick of it. I prefer Karma by miles.
L.E.S. Artistes - Santigold: I searched on YouTube but I only found SantOgold, not Santigold. But still I listened to the song, and I kinda like it, but I still liked most of the songs on this list more.
All The Things She Said - TATU: I love TATU, and this is the first song I've heard from them. Their voices are amazing but I still feel weird about some of their pronunciation of words.
Mr. Brightside - The Killers: One of the few songs of The Killers that I know and this is the best song of them for me!! I hear this on radio all the time back then.
Bust Ya Windows - Jazmine Sullivan: I thought the title is Bust YOUR Windows? Anyway, I like it at first listen, it even spent few days on my c/d, but I still don't like her voice. It's pretty creepy.
Nobody's Home - Avril Lavigne: One of the best Avril Lavigne songs along with My Happy Ending and Innocence. I really thought My Happy Ending will be her top song here and I'm shocked that it is Nobody's Home indeed.
Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood: It's Carrie, and I love her so much!! And this song is FIERCE!!

Okay, I listened to all songs and here are my comments upon each song
Breathe - Michelle Branch
It's one of her songs that's worthy a listen especially when I'm in a good mood. Not her best single and I feel that there's something lacking in its elements of being a song
Hypnotized - McFly
Not bad not good also, overall it is just okay in my taste, actually this is my first listen to this song, & Not much a fan of the band
Why Do You Love Me - Garbage
Nice song, I love how the instruments sounds and its very rockish, Kinda repetitive, especially the lyrics and it sometimes annoying. Shirley Manson's voice is okay here
If I Ain't Got You - Alicia Keys
Love her doing the piano, her voice, so soulful, and the lyrics are very meaningful where people can relate upon to, overall, one of her best!
L.E.S. Artistes - Santigold
Her voice in this song reminds me of Gwen Stefani, plus I find the song good, nice production yet sometimes annoying because of her way of singing.
All The Things She Said - TATU
Love It, love their accent on this english version, its one of the songs that are nostalgic, plus the chorus sounds like a "Wall of Sound".
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
Probably one of their best, I love the chorus but the verses are just okay. I like the lyrics because its kinda mysterious and it tells a story.
Bust Ya Windows - Jazmine Sullivan
I do not like this song much, I prefer her other singles, it's kinda forgetful yet I love her voice, its soulful and haunting especially in this song.
Nobody's Home - Avril Lavigne
A perfect masterpiece from Avril! I love the narrative lyrics to this song and overall, one of her best songs.
Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood
For a not typical kind of a country song, elements of pop rock, and with Carrie's strong powerful voice, this song is daring and fierce!, no wonder it is one of songs in Billboard Hot 100 history which had much longevity.
FYC
Katy Perry - Thinking of You
Missy Elliot - Work It
Dido - White Flag
Fall Out Boy - Thnks fr Th Mmrs
No Doubt - Underneath It All

Did you even listen to the song? It's clearly a woman. And it's great.
McFly: Wow, **** this band. I only had to listen to ten seconds of their performance in order to form an opinion.
The Killers: Pretty damn good.

Johnny, you will NOT drag anyone in this thread.
Also, Dido fans: ONLY SONGS FROM LIFE FOR RENT (and that flop album she released last year) ARE ELIGIBLE. Sorry I forgot to mention this!
