Madonna may indeed be past her prime but her artistry knows no bounds. They could easily release something and turn out crap, but it could just as easily turn out amazing.
And when it comes to Katy I'm glad since it could end this silly feud. She's fun and enjoyable and could bring a more carefree, goofy side out of Gaga. Nothing to do with desperation. You know, besides
your desperation to be edgy and create drama.
