And I don't mean relatively unknowns because their position as being unknown makes them underrated by definition, but people who are on the same level as Beyoncé professionally and have more talent than her but not the respect she has?

It's not about who's underrated. It's about Bey continually getting so much praise.
I would like to know what she's gotten praise for that she hasn't deserved. I think the media now uses it as a running gag and the fact that it pisses people off is hilarious to me.

What I mean though is that rating someone is often about comparison. So if Beyoncé is considered overrated, then that would mean there are others who have all the same qualities as her (or better) but nothing close to the level of acclaim.
If there is no one (or not many) that live up to her abilities then one can't really call her overrated, because she would be rated fairly in the scale of who is being compared against her.

I disagree. Although for the most part, as shown in this thread, when people on here speak of her being overrated it's usually because they feel soandso is better. It doesn't help that the Hive insinuates every time that she's better then all the others.
But my point is, IRL, if people are saying she's overrated, it's because they don't like her music. "She's not as good as she use to be." These other girls get ample amount of praise, all things considering, but it's always a problem when Bey gets some.
How is someone getting praised making your fave inferior? Bey gets praised for being a great entertainer. And that she is. Why people get so up in arms about that, I'll never understand.

First off, I think some people in this thread do not understand what "overrated" means. When it's used, it's not saying the artist lacks talent. What it says is that the artist is not as good as people claim. In the case of Beyonce, most people, particularly on ATRL, like to beat it into our heads that she IS the peak of pop music. That she is the unparalleled, most talented, most entertaining, best singing pop act ever and no artist has come close to Beyone's level of talent. Ever. Some fans actually make her out to be some kind of legitimate goddess we should worship.
This is an incredibly high standard, and when I say she is overrated, what it means is that I do not think she is the unparalleled best artist of all time. Or, barring that and being a bit more grounded, the best pop artist of all time. Therefore I think she is overrated not due to specific faults of her own, but because I think there are some artists out there who are, ultimately, more talented than she is. So, to me, she is overrated not because of a lack of talent, but because she is not THE BEST and is treated as such.
It also comes down to what you look at when determining talent. For exxample, while performing abilities are important, I think the actual music an artist releases is even more important. In the case of Beyonce, while she has some songs I love, her actual music, as a whole, is not something that I, personally, connect to as much as music by the likes of Christina, Madonna, Britney, or Mariah. Therefore regardless of her performing abilities, if I connect to another artist's music more, and they have some form of say in that music (all four of those women do, some more than others), I will always rank the one with music I prefer as the more talented option. To me, that is a crucial part of the complete package, and a part Beyonce lcks in comparison to others. However, one's opinion on music is also very subjective, so that makes my lack of connection to Bey's music personal to me, not a fact

What? If anyone is the female MJ it's Janet. In terms of dancing. No shade.

Overrated and untalented don't mean the same thing.
She's very talented actually.
But if someone thinks she's overrated then that's their opinion.
Just like some of you thinking she's underrated, that's your opinion.

Anyway this is completely irrelevant considering that the whole "Beyoncé only shakes her booty" is a myth and a tired shade, as there is not one performance that relies solely on Beyoncé standing on stage shaking her butt.

Some people don't like her music, and thus find her overrated because a lot of people like her music.

The comments stating that if you stan for someone who is "untalented because he cant hold a note" you have no right to criticise Beyonce are just so ignorant and pathetic.
When someone doesnt excell at singing doesnt mean he is untalented. A talented artist is someone who has some extraordinary abilities which he uses on making creative things/music. Many artists cant hold a note yet they are responsible for amazing music because they have many other talents and can turn their flawed vocals into something that compliments their music in a unique way. What is truly overrated here is singing, because its like the only talent atrlers acknowledge and thats just sad.

Beyonce really is a good entertainer and she is good at what she is doing.
But in my humble opinion, it takes as much of finesse if not more to perform songs you have created, singing, playing an instrument and entertain the crowd while you dont have everything planned and choreographed beforehand so a lot is happening spontaneously than to go up there, looking pretty and execute the songs written for you, choreos designed for you and having backtrack, dancers and huge production to save you when you dont have your day.
Also so many bands make very intricate performances involving theatre, visuals, poetry etc. and create very complex live experiences which require so much subtlety and creativity.

I find her overrated because people act like she is a God. I dont stan for her because I find her personality off-putting and her music boring. Shes talented but its more the giant system of people around her and the glamour that make her seem like more than she is. Thats the thing, everything about her just seems like one giant corporation and it feels fake. But thats just my opinion

You can't prove an opinion. That's why it's called an opinion. The issue isn't that we're not proving why she's overrated, it's that the Hive can't comprehend that their opinion isn't fact.
