So now that I've had a couple of days of playing the song nonstop on repeat I am ready to assess the situation.
The first thing doesn't necessarily have to do with the song itself, but the lack of interest I have seen from fans in general. I mean look at the page count on this thread for example, I feel like prior releases have been much more anticipated, and this was kind of less eventful, so I am a little sad about that.
Infinity has some really beautiful highlights, but it also has some low points in it too.
When she hits the breakdown "Why the ice got you so cold" and the bass really kicks in I die every time. The intro and the outro of the song are flawless, the violins really do bring SO much class to the song. The ooh ahistorical are infectious and While I am largely confused by the 90s comparisons, the oohs and ahhhs do actually take it back a bit.
The lowlights for me start with some of the vocals in some spots. Particularly the high notes in the Infinityyyyyyyyyyeeeeyeyeyeyeeeeyyyyeyyy parts. They're rough, and I have no idea why their even included. It makes the song sound busier, and it doesn't sound good there's no better way to say it. The lyrics aren't as bad as some people are making them out to be. Yes, there are some corny moments, but all in all there are some very clever and deep moments in there. My only issue is I feel like she tried to fit too much in one song, and started singing really fast, and if you don't watch the lyric video you have no idea what she's saying and can't really appreciate the lyrics or relate to them properly.
Had some of the items been tweaked or someone really taken control and put Mariah in check on some of these things I think the song could be a hit.
Either way I will always support Mariah, and I will keep playing this song. It's definitely a Up Out My Face meets We Belong Together.

I second that.
The more I listen to the song (which I basically do all day) the more I am enchanted. There's really something magical about it
I can see why some people are not too fond of the song because it is a bit extra. But what I don't understand is the criticism of her voice. When YM(E) came out many of you were like, "We all know she only hits that high note in the studio these days" and what not. Now y'all criticize that high head note (?) and her vocals for being too "raw". I mean, it's basically what she sounds like today, though.
