Yup. It's not just a license. Here are the couples reasons for suing before the Supreme Court:
Michigan - Joint adoption not allowed, if the parent who's not on the paper has her wife die, she won't keep custody of her kids. She'll have them taken away.
Ohio/Kentucky/Tennessee: Plaintiffs who are already married in another state want their marriages recognized back home because spouse dying/died and they want to be able to be listed on the death certificate, make decisions on property.
