After months of testing a group of experts appointed by the Ministry of Defence has the G36 assault rifle now officially certifies lack of accuracy. “The reason for the declining impact probability is not one of the components, such as ammunition or weapon, but the whole system,” says the report.

Tests done now reveal that the barrel is not reliably fixed. Barrel heat is transferred to the plastic holdings, which have an inconsistent amount of fiber, so that the heat leads to an inconsistent wandering of the barrel itself. Further the different traits of metal and plastic reinforce this effect. An external temperature of 23 degree Celsius already can destabilise the plastics. The heat developing during a firefight such as in a common Afghan ambush increases the average bullet stray to 75-600 cm on 500m distance.

The rifles are made of polymer, the polymer warps when it gets hot, and the sights are also embedded in the polymer. So the barrel AND sights can be warping. German engineering at its best.
See this picture, observe the melty plastics.
The rifles could be affected by things such as rapid fire, ambient temperature, and direct sunlight.
They also found that the rifles were being made out of cheap plastic.
Quote:
The audit reportedly concluded that G36 rifle receivers were being made in whole or in part from polyethylene plastic (a very common, very cheap plastic of the kind used to make milk jugs and bags), rather than the polyamide plastic specified: "According to the Court of Auditors’ report and the Bundeswehr Research Institute of the Bundeswehr found evidence of oddities. In the plastic mixture of the housing of the series rifles, the additive polyethylene could be detected, which could promote the deformation of the hot weapon."

The Defense Minister says it has "no future" with the Bundeswehr. So what are they expected to replace it with?
Oh, another version of that famous American design.
