I'm not even a Christian but I see massive over generalizations about Christians on here that are so hypocritical and hilarious to me.
We say it's racist to lump all black people together (which it is) and say that if one steals stuff they all steal stuff but then think it makes any sense to generalize an organization that has billions of people under it's influence?
Obviously there is going to be radicals and that's just the way it is for any group whether it be LGBT, racial groups, revolutionist groups etc.
Opinions
No. People are too quick to generalize and forget all the good that's done by well meaning people. Even historically I think it's as much positive as negative (probably more positive lbr.) Also, it does a lot of good for people mentally, just being something a lot of people need.
I think we can separate religion from institutions (when applicable) and criticize the workings of the latter without attacking the religion. For example, Pope Francis is doing a great job challenging a lot of people inside of the Catholic church and getting the church to serve their religion better.
I don't think your comparison quiet works. In your example you're comparing a group of people that have something in common which they did not choose, they just happen to have the same skin colour and nothing else. Religions however are a bunch of people united by their same belief. For instance not every christian is also someone who hates gays but it's a fact that most are. It's a fact that Christianity has done a lot of damage in the past. Black people as a whole have not.
So yes, religion deserves it's bad reputation because despise standing for something good they continue to hurt and spread hate as a whole.
personal faith has done lots of people lots of good but organised religion has done far more bad than good
What you said about generalisations is true, but thats similar to anything, lots of white people aren't racist, but white culture is racist, lots of police aren't thugs but police culture is a culture of thuggery, not all christians are bad, but the culture and traditions of christianity enables and encourages discrimination and hatred
Generalizing religious people is different from giving a bad reputation to religion - which itself is far different from giving a bad reputation to organized religion and some of the things it has caused and done.
Satanism is actually pretty great imo. But I say yes too. I don't think that we need religion but I accept the nice religious people. Many good things were done by good people and I think it's wrong to give religion or the church credit for that.

But that's because modern Satanism is for the most part based on atheism. They're not actually devil-worshipping, demon summoning, murdering and sacrificing maniacs. They're just a bunch of atheists trying to provoke and be edgy.
There are few vocal members that do not preach what their religion teaches and that's why it gets a bad reputation. But the main message for most religions is to love, forgive, and treat others how you'd want to be treated. And the average person tries to follow this.
No, religion has done good things too. So much science, law and progress was supported by religion. The world would be chaos if there were absolutely no moral codes taught.
And the only reason ATRL hates religion is because most members are gay and the religions they're familiar with are against homosexuality, but not all of them do.
