Discussion: Will CL suffer an Iggy-like backlash?

CL, like Iggy, is heavily influenced by American hip-hop music and style. Do you think she'll suffer the same type of "cultural appropriation" and "trying to be black" backlash from the American public? Will the hip-hop/black community embrace her?

No because they're going to push her on pop radio, not urban. Also she's not going to go around claiming she's the hottest MC and that she changed rap forever. CL is 100% more humble and passionate than Iggy and that's not an opinion. Check ha lengthy discography, interviews and live performances.

Probably not because she wouldn't be getting success due to her being privileged and it would be a legitimate breakthrough for an Asian female to find success in ANY genre.

Iggy was claiming she was the hottest MC outside her music in interviews. That's where the problem starts. You can be braggadocious (sp?) in rap within the space of your music. Once you're doing it outside of music and as a serious thing, that's where backlash, memes and insults come in. You better be able to back up what you're saying in the music if you want to pretend it's reality. See the difference?

This too. If CL breaks through in any English dominated genre, she's actually making a statement since there's only like 3 ish Asian females who have done it before.

If she does an annoying fake accent like Iggy then Yes. If she doesn't then no. Evene if she gets backlash, it won't be Iggy level.
