In many cases, smugglers’ boats are old and relatively small, and carry fewer than 200 people. But Mr. Muscat said this ship had multiple tiers and was teeming with people. Maltese rescuers reported seeing bodies floating and sinking in the water.

“It was quite large, with two stories,” Mr. Muscat said of the boat. “Most of the people who died are still trapped in the ship.”

Um it's their last resort from escaping from war. It's the last thing you should stick to but any other chance at living in peace is practically impossible. That being said, only people that suffer from persecution (due to war) should be allowed to enter European territory. It's difficult to determine that but I'm afraid a lot of people just want to come here for the fact that it's Europe not because they have to or are forced to and thus endanger negligently other people's and their own lives by overcrowding these boats. These kind of people should be filtered out beforehand. If only it was that easy. RIP to all that died.

Italy and Malta can't deal with the flood of immigrants and none of the other EU countries want to give more money to help get the outter border on fleek.

I already said it in the other thread but these people need our help. The ignorance is disgusting. I understand when people are pissed about migrants from East Europe or Turkey or other Arabian countries but Africa? I mean, it's our fault and we need to help them. And I'm absolutely here for a mixed Europe like America.

It's tragic that something sad like this causes people to vote for right wing parties after all those years of war and communism. It's time that we get a new wave of liberal politicians with new ideas.
