It's because the Nats and Dodgers (and especially the Dodgers) are flashier teams than the Cardinals. The Dodgers have the highest payroll in the game, and have players like Puig, Gonzalez, Kershaw- the big names. Same with the Nats- their rotation is ridiculous now (Scherzer-Strasburg-Zimmermann-Fister-Gonzalez). Both teams have made big offseason moves.
The Cardinals, in comparison, seem to me like the quiet model of consistency, not unlike the Spurs in the NBA, that always find ways to get into October. They always seem to have a strong farm system (see: Wong, Wacha, T. Rosenthal, Taveras [
], C. Martinez) and can pull it out in the playoffs. I completely understand why the media ignores them.
