Teenage Dream as a whole is masterpiece and a very successful at that one but I don't think it defined anything?
Sure it has great sales, acclaim and Grammys but 21 didn't either except for bringing back the toned down sound to the mainstream as a result made Sam Smith huge so I'm not fine with that

Teenage Dream isn't a defining album. Ke$ha's 'Animal' defined the first few years of the decade because it brought in that electro pop sound and introduced using uber amounts of autotune. For Gaga fans, she brought back dance pop, not electro pop; two different things. 21 is a defining album because it brought back album sales and set the tone for the stripped down pop we hear today. Pure Heroine also helped the indie movement quite a bit

21, Teenage Dream & Beyoncé were landmarks as far as "pop" goes this decade. Although I wouldn't call them defining albums, BTW and Loud have each had a significant impact on pop music this decade.

RITD & SLY made IFPI. Set Fire prolly did, too.

TD had some impact locally but not like 21, either of Bruno's albums or Gaga's TFM & BTW.

To be in league with 21 you need to be global imo

Animal didn't define anything. The sound was popular for like, what, 2-3 years top? Teenage Dream gave birth to lots of copycat, and it was like... 10000 times more popular than Animal in every aspect. Katy's wigs, costumes and unmatched number of top 3 singles will AT LEAST be remembered. Can't say the same for Animal. Tik Tok was a big hit, but not enough to call the whole album defining lol.
